The McFarland Food Pantry continues to be a 100% volunteer organization from the Pantry Board to the Pantry Managers and the wide range of individual and group volunteers.
Volunteers ensure that the Pantry is cleaned and stocked, along with packing groceries for Pantry guests. View volunteer job descriptions below:

Pre-Opening Volunteers
Typical Hours: Monday between 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
(may be longer depending on incoming product)
Duties:

- Unload food and household items received from Second Harvest and other donors
- Weigh and log incoming items (food, non-food, produce)
- Place items in refrigerator/freezer as appropriate
- Shelve/Store non-perishable products
- Assist in general clean-up (break down boxes, empty trash, sweep)

Open Shopping Volunteers
Typical Hours: Monday: 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.; 3rd Saturday of the month from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Shorter (one to two hour) shifts are possible
Duties (non-pandemic when indoor shopping is allowed):

- Greet guests
- If, requested, assist with guest shopping
- Pack groceries

- Sign form verifying receipt of items
- Deliver to Pantry and help unload

Typical Hours: Flexible time with product being delivered weekly to the Pantry on Tuesdays or Wednesday before 3 p.m.

- Order federal food commodities monthly through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)

Record Keeper
Typical Hours: Two to three hours per week; time flexible

- Complete Product Donation report summarizing donations and logging into tracking system.
- Track volunteer names and hours; logging into tracking system
- Complete monthly RSVP report

Thank You Letters
Typical Hours: One-Two per month; flexible
Duties:

- Write thank you letters for product donations per Product Donation reports
- Write thank you letters for monetary donations
- Ensure letters are signed and mailed

Appointed at the Pantry’s Annual Meeting in April, serving a 3-year term. (Per the by-laws a board member can be appointed to a second 3-year term.)
